Sub Meter in Claude Desktop

What it does

Your subscription usage at the bottom right of Claude Code, on the permission mode line. A bar switches between the 5-hour and weekly windows and shows the time to reset.

How it works

  1. Takes the rate-limit windows after each response, and a first reading at session start.
  2. Keeps the last reading, so a new session shows it before its first response.
  3. Draws a bar and percentage after the permission mode, switching windows every 8 seconds.
  4. Colors the bar yellow from 75% and red from 90%, followed by the time until reset.

Good to know

  • Needs a subscription. With API key billing there is nothing to show, and the footer stays as it is.
  • Hides the (shift+tab to cycle) hint to make room. Turn that off with hideCycleHint in /config.
  • Shows only the 5-hour and weekly windows. Claude Code reports no monthly one.

Token Weather Usage in Claude Desktop

One line above the prompt: context tokens with their weather, a bar per recent prompt, your 5-hour and 7-day limits against the time elapsed, the prompt cache with its time left, the session cost with the last prompt's share in dollars and in points of the 5-hour limit, and the subagents running. Labels in English, French or Russian. After Token Weather (Anthropic, Apache-2.0) and the ideas of usage-meter (HolyGrail) and prompt-cache-control (Daniel San).
