Leitstand in Claude Desktop

What it does

Rows above the prompt for what Claude Code doesn't show: free disk space, how full the context is, and which hook just blocked a tool call. It stays hidden until something needs you.

Claude Code 2.1.296

How it works

  1. Checks free disk with df every 5 minutes and shares the reading across your sessions
  2. Flags the disk at 35 GB free and turns it red at 20 GB, counting it in the footer
  3. From 250k tokens the context row turns yellow and says compact; it never compacts itself
  4. When a hook blocks a tool call, it shows the hook's name and reason until your next prompt

Good to know

  • Running agents and shells aren't listed, since Claude Code already shows them below the prompt
  • /stand opens or closes the list; closing it quiets the disk warning until free space hits 20 GB
  • On macOS it plays a sound after work that took over a minute; set LEITSTAND_SOUND=off to mute it

A boxed multi-line panel with auto-sizing borders: a context section with a gradient bar and status word, a stats section (tokens, cost, duration, lines changed), and a repo section (model, git branch with file counts, clock, vim mode), in a terracotta Claude-brand palette.
